In Russia, seven Ukrainian servicemen were sentenced to 15 and 16 years in prison for "terrorist attacks" in the Kursk Region. The decision was made by the 2nd Western District Military Court in Moscow, the Radio Liberty reports.
Five soldiers — Anatoliy Voloshyn, Serhiy Karayev, Oleksandr Doychuk, Zinoviy Sygerich and Oleh Vovk — were sentenced to 16 years in a strict regime colony, and Volodymyr Arshulyk and Andriyan Kulbaba — to 15 years. Their arrest became known in October 2024.
Russia called participation in the Kursk operation terrorist acts. Two soldiers were found guilty in this case back in December: Vitaliy Panchenko and Ivan Dmytrakov were sentenced to 14 and 15 years in prison.
- The Kursk operation has been underway since August 2024, with the aim of creating a buffer zone on Russian territory and weakening the enemy in other areas.
- In January this year, the Defence Forces launched a new offensive.
