German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius has arrived in Ukraine, Tagesschau has reported.
Pistorius told dpa-News that he had arrived in Kyiv for talks with the Ukrainian government. The minister intends to discuss further assistance and get an idea of the military situation.
The day before, Pistorius denied that the German Chancellor had blocked a new support package for Ukraine. However, he acknowledged that the package still needs to be approved internally. Pistorius explained that the Ministry of Defence has prepared this package, and now a political decision is needed to provide it to Ukraine.
As reported, at the end of last year, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that Germany's total aid to Ukraine amounted to 37 billion euros. This is the largest amount among all European countries.
