Sirenos is Lithuania’s leading performing arts festival. It consists of two parts: presentations of Lithuanian productions for international producers and theatre festival programmers, and an international platform showcasing productions from other countries. In 2026, Sirenos is united under the theme Theatre as Escape.

“We live in times when war, disinformation, conspiracy theories and a constant stream of bad news have become part of everyday life. When reality becomes apocalyptically unbearable, many of us seek refuge in art. Theatre is unique in that we experience it together, seeking like-minded people and worlds to which we can escape for an hour or two, returning, perhaps, somewhat changed,” says Kristė Agota Savė, Creative Director of Sirenos.

Created with the support of the Cité internationale des arts and La Briqueterie CDCN du Val-de-Marne, The Trap explores the psychological and emotional traps people face in times of crisis. The performer’s costume — a cocoon-like “second skin” from which long strips of fabric emerge — intertwines with the surrounding objects, embodying a state of physical and psychological confinement.

In her work, Rita Lira combines contemporary dance, performance, visual art and archival research, exploring themes of mental traps, cyclicality, and the bodily experience of war and forced displacement.

The performance will be presented with the support of the Ukrainian Institute on 1 October 2026 at 18:00 at MO muziejus in Vilnius.
