In the past month alone, 56 dead dolphins washed ashore along the coast of the Tuzly Lagoons National Nature Park, while cetaceans showing signs of blast concussion were found near Odesa.
This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation.
According to the park’s scientists, approximately 100,000 dolphins belonging to three species have died in the Black and Azov seas during more than four and a half years of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
“The only and indisputable cause of this tragedy is the war. Due to military pressure — mine explosions, missile launches, the use of powerful sonar systems, and chemical pollution (particularly as a result of the Kakhovka Dam destruction) — the Black Sea ecosystem has been pushed to the brink of collapse,” the statement said.
The Center for Countering Disinformation noted that, unless the aggressor is stopped, Black Sea dolphin populations could disappear entirely.
“For more than four and a half years, Russia has been committing the crime of ecocide against Ukraine. The Kremlin is waging war not only against people but is also systematically destroying Ukraine’s unique natural environment. The park’s specialists continue to carefully document every such case so that this evidence can form the basis of future legal proceedings. For every crime committed, the aggressor state must be held accountable,” the Centre added.
