Norway’s national team defeated Brazil (2:1) in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, LB.ua reported.
Brazil had the first chance to take the lead when Bruno Guimarães stepped up to take a penalty after a foul on Matheus Cunha. However, the Newcastle player failed to beat Nyland.
For most of the match, both teams created several chances, but neither could score until the 79th minute. Then Erling Haaland won a battle in the opponent’s penalty area and headed the ball past Brazil goalkeeper Alisson with no chance.
Eleven minutes later, Haaland struck again. He received the ball near the left corner of the opponents’ penalty area and, virtually from a standing position, rolled it diagonally inside the right post to make it 2:0.
Brazil managed to pull one back through Neymar. He converted a penalty in the 10th minute of added time.
With his brace, Haaland took his 2026 World Cup tally to seven goals. He shares top spot in the tournament’s scoring chart with Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé.
Norway have reached the World Cup quarterfinals for the first time in their history. Overall, it is their fourth appearance at the World Cup.
In the quarterfinals, the Norwegians will face the winners of the Mexico–England tie.
