Oman and Iran could reach an understanding on the parameters of a new agreement to restore shipping in the Strait of Hormuz by the end of 27 July.
This was reported by Axios, citing sources.
According to the outlet, talks between the sides are showing positive momentum. Two sources familiar with the negotiations say the parties have already made significant progress, and a final agreement could be concluded in the near future.
As Axios notes, U.S. President Donald Trump decided on Friday not to authorize a new series of strikes on Iran. This came just hours after an Omani delegation arrived in Tehran; Oman is acting as a mediator in the talks on the prospective agreement.
After all provisions of the document are agreed between Oman and Iran, the final decision on whether to back the proposed arrangement is to be made by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Details of the agreement have not been disclosed so far.
At the same time, the outlet recalls that on 21 July, Qatar, Egypt, Pakistan, and other regional intermediaries delivered to the United States and Iran a proposal to introduce a 10-day ceasefire regime. The U.S. administration confirmed it is currently reviewing the initiative.
