Former prime minister Yuliya Svyrydenko may take the helm of Naftogaz of Ukraine. MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak was the first to report that her candidacy was being considered, and LB sources have confirmed the information.
If a positive decision is made, Yuliya Svyrydenko could lead the national joint-stock company first as acting head, and later as the full chief executive. According to a source close to the authorities, the appointment is “still under consideration.”
The previous head of Naftogaz was Serhiy Koretskyy, who last month replaced Yuliya Svyrydenko as head of government. The president had offered the former prime minister the post of Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States, as Olha Stefanishyna was preparing to step down amid preparations to announce a new suspicion against her.
However, Svyrydenko’s agreement to take up diplomatic service has not been publicly reported. Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he had also offered her to lead a certain area, but did not go into details about which one.
The head of Naftogaz’s management board is appointed by its supervisory board. After Koretskyy’s dismissal, it appointed Serhiy Fedorenko as acting head. A full-time chief executive is appointed through a competitive selection process.
Yuliya Svyrydenko
Born in 1985 in Chernihiv. She earned a degree in Management of Antimonopoly Activity at the Kyiv National University of Trade and Economics, and in 2009 completed a full course in accounting at the Kyiv School of Market Economics. She completed courses at the State Property Fund of Ukraine and is a certified specialist in the valuation of real estate and equipment, as well as in the valuation of businesses, securities, intangible assets, and intellectual property (2009, 2011). She also completed a series of land valuation trainings at the Kyiv International Institute of Business.
She began her career in 2008 as a financial economist at the Ukrainian-Andorran joint venture JSC AMP (Kyiv). She later worked as an appraiser at the Chernihiv Intercity Bureau of Technical Inventory and as deputy director of Eco-Vtor LLC (Kyiv). In 2011, she was appointed head of Chernihiv’s Permanent Representation in Wuxi (PRC), the only representation of a Ukrainian city in the PRC (on a voluntary basis). From 2015, she held senior positions in the Chernihiv Regional State Administration: she headed the Department of Economic Development, served as first deputy head of the Chernihiv Regional State Administration, and from July to December 2018 performed the duties of head of the regional state administration.
From March to September 2019, she was director of Sidko Ukraine LLC, which specializes in producing feed for wild birds and processes organic products.
From 29 September 2019, she served as deputy minister of development of economy, trade and agriculture of Ukraine.
On 24 December 2019, she was elected chair of the management board of the Fund for Compulsory State Social Insurance of Ukraine in Case of Unemployment. She was a member of the delegation to the Trilateral Contact Group and a representative in the working subgroup on socio-economic issues.
From 22 July 2020, she served as first deputy minister of development of economy, trade and agriculture of Ukraine.
By decree of the President of Ukraine on 22 December 2020, she was appointed deputy head of the Office of the President of Ukraine.
On 4 November 2021, the Verkhovna Rada appointed Yuliia Svyrydenko first deputy prime minister and minister of economy.
On 17 July 2025, the Verkhovna Rada approved Yuliya Svyrydenko as prime minister of Ukraine. She was dismissed on 14 July 2026.
