On the night of 8 August, Russia launched six ballistic missiles at Kyiv. Russian drones also attacked the village of Pukhivka in the Kyiv Region. The strike killed three members of one family: a three-year-old boy, his grandmother, and his grandfather.
This was reported by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"Last night, drone strikes Russia killed three people in Pukhivka in the Kyiv Region: a grandfather, a grandmother, and their grandson. The boy was only three years old," the statement said.
According to him, those injured include the parents of the child who was killed, his 15-year-old brother, and a neighbour who came to help the family after the first strike and was wounded during a repeat attack.
Doctors diagnosed the injured with thermal burns and shrapnel wounds.
"It was an ordinary residential house," Zelenskyy noted.
The president also said that overnight Russian forces struck Kyiv’s civilian infrastructure with six ballistic missiles.
As of the time of the statement, one person was known to have been killed in the capital.
In addition to the Kyiv region and Kyiv, the Donetsk, Kharkiv, Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhya, Odesa, Kherson, Mykolayiv, Chernihiv and Poltava Regions were also under Russian strikes.
Zelenskyy urged international partners to increase pressure on Russia, including through new sanctions intended to make it harder to produce Russian missiles.
Separately, the president stressed the need to strengthen Ukraine’s air and missile defence. He said Ukraine needs additional air-defence assets and interceptor missiles for Patriot, SAMP/T, NASAMS, and HAWK systems, as well as for F-16 fighter jets.
"More protection is needed for our people," the head of state emphasised.
