The 425th Separate Assault Regiment “Skala” is coming under the operational control of the 1st Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine “Azov”.
Oleksiy Bratushchak, head of the regiment’s communications department, said this on the Butusov Plus programme, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
Bratushchak explained that the unit would not become part of the corps itself.
According to the military official, soldiers, battalions and composite units are being brought together to carry out combat missions in the same section of the frontline.
Earlier, media reports emerged that soldiers from the regiment were being transferred to other brigades. The reports said that around 2,000 troops had been sent to nearly 10 different units about a week earlier.
The Skala Regiment said it continues to carry out missions in its designated areas and that none of its units had been withdrawn from their positions. The command said it viewed the decision by the higher command to reinforce other brigades as its contribution to strengthening Ukraine’s defence and would comply with all orders.
- Earlier, the assault regiment confirmed that the intake of new recruits had been suspended since 26 July.
Scandal surrounding “Skala”
- Earlier, Babel published information about soldiers being beaten by fellow service members within the largest assault regiment, as well as cases involving the deaths of mobilised soldiers serving in the unit. Skala responded to the report.
- Later, the commander of the 425th Separate Assault Regiment, Yurii Harkavyi, was suspended from his duties pending inspections and investigations.
- The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) detained a serviceman who was serving in the Skala Regiment when the alleged crimes were committed, on suspicion of assaulting fellow soldiers. He is accused of beating two servicemen in Kharkiv Region.
- The Pechersk District Court of Kyiv subsequently ordered him to be held in custody until 7 September 2026, without the possibility of bail.
- The Fortetskyi District Court of Kropyvnytskyi ordered two more servicemen from the medical company of the Skala Regiment to be held in custody without bail. They are suspected of torturing fellow soldiers.
