In Germany, in the federal state of Saxony, law enforcement officers discovered 21 improvised explosive devices near energy infrastructure facilities. They were neutralised by specialist police units.
This was reported by the Dresden Public Prosecutor General’s Office and the Saxony State Criminal Police Office.
The police operation ran from 4 to 6 September. The explosive devices were found in the immediate vicinity of power lines south of the Graustein substation near the settlement of Schleife in the Görlitz district.
All 21 devices were neutralised by specialists from special units of the Saxony State Criminal Police Office.
Law enforcement is investigating the incident as an attack on electricity infrastructure facilities.
According to Tagesschau, investigators believe the explosive devices may have been intended to damage energy infrastructure by causing a short circuit.
At the same time, consumers’ energy supply was not interrupted as a result of the incident.
Law enforcement notes that this is not the first similar case in Germany. Attempts to sabotage energy infrastructure have previously also been recorded in the federal states of Brandenburg and North Rhine-Westphalia. In all of these cases, no disruptions to the electricity supply were recorded.

The investigation is currently establishing the circumstances of the incident and the individuals involved in placing the explosive devices.
