A Russian drone attacked a Tanzania-flagged vessel that was heading to one of Ukraine’s ports on 17 September. The Ministry for Restoration, Infrastructure and Transport of Ukraine reported this.
The ship’s captain was killed in the strike. Three other crew members were injured.
As the head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration Oleh Kiper said, the superstructure and deck were damaged.
The ministry noted that Russia is systematically attacking Ukrainian ports, port infrastructure and civilian merchant vessels. Such strikes pose a threat to people and to international shipping in the Black Sea.
The ministry expects an appropriate response from the international community and further coordinated action to strengthen the protection of civilian shipping and the security of international logistics routes.
- The Black Sea corridor to ensure food security has effectively been blocked by both the Ukrainian and Russian sides, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently reported. He said Ukraine is seeking alternative routes for ships to reach Ukrainian ports and for exporting goods, not limited to grain alone.
- According to him, he discussed possible ways to resolve the problem with the leadership of Egypt, India, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
