On the night of 20 September, residents of Moldova’s Orhei and Călărași districts reported to police an unidentified flying object resembling a drone, as well as an explosion. This was reported by NewsMaker.
At around 01:50, a resident of the village of Berezloji contacted the police in Orhei. He said he had seen an object in the sky resembling a drone.
About 10 minutes later, a resident of the village of Dereneu called the police in Călărași. According to him, he saw a bright flash in the sky and then heard an explosion.
Police checked the locations indicated and the surrounding area, including outside populated areas. However, officers found no debris or signs that the object had crashed.
“During the checks and inspection of the area, no debris, impact marks or fires were found that could confirm an explosion on the ground or the fall of any object,” police said.
Law enforcement officers continue to establish all the circumstances of the incident.
Moldova’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the unauthorised flight of an aircraft resembling a drone in the country’s airspace.
“Such an incident is an unacceptable violation of our country’s airspace and poses a direct threat to the safety of citizens,” the Moldovan Foreign Ministry stressed.
Moldova’s Foreign Ministry also emphasised the need for full respect for the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and airspace.
