The court sentenced two traitors to life imprisonment with confiscation of property; they were exposed in August 2024 in Kramatorsk.
The convicted cohabiting couple, acting on Russia’s orders, directed enemy fire in five regions of Ukraine, the Security Service reported.
Posing as a married couple, the suspects travelled around Donetsk, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Poltava and Cherkasy regions. There, they tracked the locations of the Defence Forces and energy facilities that Russia was preparing to hit in a series of massive strikes.
The investigation found that the task for the FSB was carried out by a Kramatorsk resident who was addicted to drugs and had previously been convicted twice for theft and robbery, together with his cohabiting partner. She came to the attention of the Russian special services while looking for quick money on Telegram. Following their handlers’ instructions, they passed the enemy information on air defence positions, command posts, logistics hubs of the Ukrainian military and key energy infrastructure sites.
To gather information, the suspects rented accommodation with a view of potential targets and mounted phones on the windows with remote access for the Russian special service. SBU officers detained the agents in Kramatorsk, where they had returned for new reconnaissance forays.
During searches, officers seized mobile phones and money from Russia, which the pair tried to launder by using it as a deposit towards buying a home. The court found the suspects guilty of high treason committed by prior conspiracy under martial law, as well as laundering property obtained by criminal means.
