Based on evidence gathered by the Security Service of Ukraine, a court has sentenced an agent of Russia’s military intelligence to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property for preparing bomb attacks in Vinnytsya.
As reported on the SBU website, counter-intelligence officers exposed and detained the suspect in March last year.
The unemployed woman from the Kyiv Region, who had been recruited, was looking for “easy” money on Telegram channels, where Russian special services made contact with her. On her handler’s instructions, she travelled to Vinnytsya, rented accommodation and collected two improvised explosive devices from a pre-prepared cache.
The traitor planned to plant explosives in a Ukrainian serviceman’s car and in a police building. Near these targets, she was to install concealed video cameras so the occupiers could track the targets and detonate the bombs remotely.
SBU officers caught the traitor in the act as she was setting up a camera near the serviceman’s vehicle. During searches, officers seized explosives and a phone containing evidence of the crime.
The court found the woman guilty of high treason committed under martial law.
