In the Transcarpathian Region, a woman has been sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property for passing data on military facilities and the region’s defences to the Hungarian special services.

This was reported by the Transcarpathian Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

The court found a 36-year-old resident of the village of Hecha in Berehove district guilty of high treason for passing information about military facilities and Transcarpathia’s defensive capabilities to a representative of the Hungarian special services. She and another agent were detained in May 2025. It was established that their handler was a career officer in Hungary’s military intelligence.

The investigation and the court found that the woman met a representative of Hungary’s special services before the start of the full-scale invasion. He later recruited her and provided a mobile phone with communication apps installed.

At first, the tasks involved collecting information about military facilities in Transcarpathia. In particular, the woman was to report on the movement and appearance of military equipment, aircraft and helicopters in the Region.

Later, her ability to gather information expanded significantly. In February 2025, the woman got a job as a cook at one of the military units in the Berehove area. Having gained access to internal information, she began passing it to her accomplice, who in turn was in contact with a representative of the Hungarian special services.

This included, in particular, information about servicemen, the unit’s operations, the organisation of catering, defence systems and other details. The woman also photographed sites and sent the relevant materials. For carrying out the assigned tasks, she received at least €1,000.

Until the verdict enters into legal force, the woman will remain in custody without the option of bail.

The case against a 40-year-old former border guard from the Berehove area, who worked for the same handler, is still being heard in court. Since his detention, he has been held in custody with no alternative. The former serviceman is accused of collecting and passing to representatives of a foreign special service information about the situation in the region, including public sentiment among the population, as well as the deployment of military forces and the staffing levels of law enforcement agencies.
