The EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas met with Pope Leo XIV.
She reported this on the X platform.
During the meeting, Kallas and Leo XIV discussed Russia’s war against Ukraine and the need to achieve a just and lasting peace, as well as the situation in the Middle East and urgent humanitarian needs.
In addition, the leaders focused on the growing threat posed by the polarisation of society and artificial intelligence.
Kallas thanked the Pontiff for his “commitment to international law”, as well as his clear stance in defence of human dignity.
- In recent days, the head of the Italian Bishops’ Conference, Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, who is serving as Pope Leo XIV’s special envoy, travelled to Moscow.
- The cardinal’s main task during the visit was to help facilitate the return of Ukrainian children, the exchange of prisoners of war, and the resolution of civilian issues that have arisen because of the war.
