A working body on identifying the remains of fallen defenders will be established under Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council. Its work will focus on speeding up the identification of the dead and improving the quality of forensic examinations.
This was reported by NSDC Secretary Ihor Klymenko.
He said that for the families of those missing in action, a long wait for identification is an additional source of pain, so the state must ensure these processes are accelerated and that examinations are carried out to a high standard.
On the instruction of the President of Ukraine, priority decisions have already been identified.
The government must strengthen the forensic medical examination system, including increasing the number of specialists and ensuring proper working conditions for them.

They also plan to establish specialised forensic medical examination bureaux in the regions, which will focus exclusively on identifying the remains of service personnel.
Klymenko noted that from now on this work will be overseen by the NSDC.
The working body will bring together all responsible state institutions. According to the NSDC Secretary, this will make it possible to see the entire process as a whole – where delays arise, which decisions are missing, and who is responsible for implementing them.
"What matters to families is not explanations of why the system works slowly. They need answers," Klymenko stressed.
