Since the start of 2026, Romania has recorded 84 drone attacks on targets in Ukraine near the Romanian border. It has also recorded 30 cases of drones entering the country’s airspace or maritime space without authorisation.

This was reported by Romania’s Ministry of Defence.

The ministry noted that since the start of the full-scale war it has recorded 49 cases of drones entering Romania’s airspace or maritime space without authorisation. In 81 cases, drones or their fragments were found on Romanian territory, and a further four drones were shot down.

Overall, since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, 151 drone attacks on targets on Ukrainian territory near the border with Romania have been recorded that required a response from the Romanian military. Fighter jets were scrambled 101 times to monitor the air situation.

The highest number of such incidents occurred in 2026. Since the start of the year, in addition to 84 attacks on targets in Ukraine near the Romanian border and 30 cases of unauthorised drone incursions into the country’s airspace or maritime space, 44 cases of drones or their fragments being found on Romanian territory have been recorded.

Four drones were also shot down, and military aircraft were scrambled 66 times to monitor the air situation.

In 2025, Romania’s Ministry of Defence recorded 28 attacks near the border and nine unauthorised incursions. In 2024, there were 26 and seven respectively, and in 2023, 12 and two.

Romania’s Ministry of Defence уточнили, that the statistical categories are not mutually exclusive. That is, the same incident may be counted in several categories.
