Kyiv is not ruling out the need to build pontoon crossings if the enemy completely destroys the bridges over the Dnipro. The city must be prepared for different scenarios, but no pontoon crossing can replace bridges when it comes to traffic.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said this at an event organised by LB and EFO Group. He noted that the city’s life depends entirely on the defenders’ ability to repel attacks.

“No one can replace the work of air defence, and so when there is an air-raid alert, I pray, I turn to God and to our air-defence troops, so that they can respond effectively,” he commented.

He said he constantly appeals to international partners, urging them to strengthen the country’s air defences.

  • This autumn, the Russians began launching targeted attacks on the bridges over the Dnipro in Kyiv. The Northern and Southern bridges came under attack. Restoration and Infrastructure Minister Kalashnyk said they plan to begin building backup crossings over the Dnipro in case the existing bridges are damaged. This includes, in particular, embankment dams with pontoon crossings.
