Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been briefed on the first results of Operation Veles, being carried out by the 2nd Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine, Khartiia, on the Kupiansk sector of the front.
The head of state wrote about this on social media.
“This is an important operation for us on the Kupiansk sector. Mykhailo Drapatyi, Ihor Obolienskyi and Pavlo Palisa reported on the first results and the progress of Operation Veles, being conducted by the 2nd Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine, Khartiia. More than a hundred Russian occupiers have already been eliminated, with more than thirty taken prisoner. Underground advance is over 15 kilometres,” he said.
The Russians tried to use underground gas infrastructure to move through Ukrainian positions and transition to assault operations. However, Ukrainian soldiers successfully adapted this tactic, modernised it, and made it far more considered and technologically advanced.
“We are protecting the lives of our people, inflicting losses on the occupier and achieving our defined objectives on the Kupiansk sector,” Zelenskyy wrote.
- The grouping under the command of the 2nd Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine, Khartiia, combined an underground offensive with actions on the surface and drone strikes. As a result, the occupiers were denied the ability to get into the rear of Kupiansk, the corps reported.
