In October, the Defence Forces inflicted record losses on the Russian army and liberated more territory than the occupiers managed to seize. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported this.

Over the course of October, Russia lost 54,400 troops killed and seriously wounded. This is a record figure for all months of the full-scale war.

On 21 October, the Russian army also suffered its highest daily losses – 2,250 troops.

At the same time, in October Ukrainian defenders liberated 96.2 km² of territory. That is 10.4 km² more than the Russian occupiers managed to seize over the same period.

Zelenskyy thanked Ukrainian service personnel for the result achieved and stressed that Ukraine continues to hold its positions and liberate its territories.

"Russia is losing. We are holding our positions, liberating territory, and making sure that every day of the war costs the aggressor as dearly as possible. To stop these insane losses, Russia only needs to choose a ceasefire and diplomacy," the President said.
