Norway’s armed forces are deploying NASAMS system sensors in the border town of Kirkenes to monitor and detect drones.

This is stated on the Norwegian government’s website.

As part of this precautionary measure, the local garrison in Sør-Varanger, stationed near the Russian border, will be temporarily reinforced by more than 30 service personnel.

Norway’s Minister of Defence Tore O. Sandvik noted that deploying the equipment directly in the border area is based on the experience of other European countries and Ukraine.

The official stressed that there are currently no direct security threats to the public; however, military command must be fully prepared for any developments on the border with Russia. At the same time, these measures will allow the army to practise the rapid redeployment of personnel and equipment to border areas.

Special sensors will monitor the airspace near the border with Russia at least until the end of the year. The military will work in close coordination with the police, who oversee compliance with drone flight rules. The Minister of Justice and Public Security assured local residents that the security situation in the north of the country remains stable, and that deploying the systems near the border is needed to strengthen civilian protection.
