Ukrainian service personnel are undertaking a Designated Marksman course at a training range in Germany. The training is being delivered jointly by instructors from the Bundeswehr, the armed forces of Slovenia and Lithuania as part of the EU Military Assistance Mission in support of Ukraine (EUMAM Ukraine).

This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Each partner country contributes to the training in its own area. Germany provides everything needed for the course, Slovenian instructors teach marksmanship and observation, and Lithuanian instructors cover camouflage and covert movement.

The exchange of experience is mutual: the instructors are also studying the tactics of Ukraine’s Defence Forces.

As early as the second day of training, trainees carry out live-fire exercises at distances of 700–800 metres. The conditions are then steadily made more challenging.

Designated marksmen provide cover for their group at ranges where the capabilities of ordinary infantry are already limited, and they complement the work of snipers.

In Germany, the training is organised by the multinational Special Training Command (ST-C). According to the Bundeswehr, as of June 2026 more than 29,000 Ukrainian service personnel have completed training here.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine thanked Germany, Slovenia and Lithuania for the professionalism of their instructors and their consistent support, as well as all partners in the EUMAM Ukraine mission.
