Russia’s war against Ukraine is unlikely to end with a victory for either side. Most likely, its conclusion will involve a peace agreement, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said when asked whether either side would win the Russia-Ukraine war.
This is reported by Bloomberg.
“I don’t think that’s very likely. Wars like this always end with a peace agreement, which is often a kind of compromise,” Rutte said.
At the same time, the NATO chief stressed that Europe must remain vigilant about potential Russian aggression even after the fighting in Ukraine ends.
He said that, for now, the Russian threat is not directly evident on Europe’s borders, as a significant share of Russian troops are engaged in the war against Ukraine.
“But if this ends, their huge army won’t be there (on Europe’s borders – ed.) simply in order to be a huge army,” Rutte added.
- NATO is developing a new defence strategy that предусматривает the possibility of striking military bases, supply depots and facilities of Russia’s defence industry deep in the Russian rear.
