On the night of 7 November, Russian forces launched a large-scale strike on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. As of the morning, consumers remain without power in the Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Kyiv, Zhytomyr and Kharkiv regions.
This was reported by Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy.
The attack caused extensive damage to electricity transmission and distribution networks.
Networks used to transmit electricity from nuclear power plants to the capital and central regions were also affected. Energy workers have already managed to restore power supply for some consumers.
The most severe damage was sustained by energy facilities in the capital region. This has significantly complicated the transmission of electricity to Kyiv and the surrounding region, and has also limited supply options for a number of neighbouring regions. Restoring the damaged equipment will take time.
In most regions of Ukraine, hourly power outage schedules remain in effect, and capacity restriction schedules have been introduced for industry. The Ministry of Energy warns that, due to new attacks, the situation may change rapidly over the course of the day.
Repair crews are working under an intensified режим. At the same time, work has to be suspended during air-raid alerts. Once the all-clear is given, energy workers return to restoring the damaged equipment.
