Discussing a new security infrastructure between Europe and Russia could be dangerous if it begins before the terms for ending the war and security guarantees for Ukraine are defined. First, there must be agreement on stopping Russian aggression and on what guarantees Ukraine will receive.
This was reported by Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper.
According to the head of state, only after that—depending on the agreements reached—will the sides be able to discuss a security architecture between Europe, or the European Union, and Russia.
Zelenskyy also warned against Russia’s intention to start negotiations specifically with the issue of a new security system in Europe. He noted that, in that case, the risks for the European Union could be even greater, since Ukraine is not a member of the EU or NATO and cannot speak on their behalf.
"We all live in Europe. We do not want a “Yalta 2.0”. We do not want Russia to divide us," the President stressed.
