A person has been sentenced to death in the self-proclaimed separatist Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), a judge of the PDR supreme court and acting chairman of the DPR military tribunal, Lyudmyla Strateychuk, has said.

"One such verdict has been handed down for today," the Russian Interfax news agency quoted her as telling journalists.

She added that several cases concerning murder and espionage, which are punishable with death, are under consideration.

Overall, there are only 58 countries in the world which practise death penalty. In Europe, only Belarus does this.
