The USA is not a mediator in talks over the release of Ukrainian pilot Nadiya Savchenko, the US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Thomas Shannon, stated on the air of the Echo of Moscow radio station, RBK-Ukraine reports.

According to Shannon, the USA is an interested party in Savchenko's case as it supports the sovereignty of Ukraine. He also stated that Savchenko was to be returned to her motherland.

"We believe that the Ukrainian pilot is to be returned… Our concern is connected with people detained in both sides of the border. These detained are to be returned to their motherland where they will not be politicized and will not be hostages of the frictions between different countries," Shannon emphasized.

As reported before, the media received the information that Russia wanted to exchange Savchenko for sentenced in the USA for long-terms entrepreneur Viktor But and pilot Konstantin Yaroshenko. America found Russia’s proposal to be a nonsense.
