Chief prosecutor asks Rada to give consent to detention, arrest of MP

The deputy is charged of inflicting 3bn hryvnia in damages to the state.

Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko asked the Verkhovna Rada to give consent to criminal prosecution, detention and arrest of MP Oleksandr Onishchenko (Will of the People), the prosecutor-general's said on his Facebook page.

The application was prepared by the National Bureau of antikorruptsonnym and anti-corruption prosecutor Nazar Holodnytskyy.

Onishchenko is charged of inflicting 3bn hryvnia damages to the state through in gas extraction and sale. Investigators believe that the gas, extracted by Onishchenko's companies jointly with Ukrgazodobuvannya was sold through fictitious commodity exchanges at a lower price, then bought back by associated companies and eventually sold at market price.
