The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has said on its website that it is investigating a case on embezzlement at the Yuzhnoukrayinsk nuclear power plant (Mykolayiv Region).

Its operatives detained a courier when he was transferring 6m hryvnyas [0.24m dollars] to the chief accountant of a public joint-stock company.

They established that the money was received from the Yuzhnoukrayinsk nuclear power plant within the framework of a contract on the reconstruction and construction of facilities of the Tashlyk pumped storage unit. To move the funds into the shadow, in May-August, the company made a number of fictitious sale operations worth 20m hryvnyas [0.8m dollars] with fake enterprises for the allegedly supplied construction materials.

The SBU is holding searches in Kharkiv, Yuzhnoukrayinsk, Pervomaysk and Voznesensk to confiscate accounting books.
