The National Bandura Choir of Ukraine surprised commuters at the Kyiv central railway station with a musical flashmob during which they sang Christmas carols.
"Our orchestra is convinced that the group performance of Christmas and New Year carols and shchedrivkas in public places is a traditional way of cultural consolidation of society," the organisers of the flashmob said on Facebook on 9 January. "This wonderful pastime has not lost its relevance to this day. On the contrary, it demonstrates that the Ukrainian national folk song culture is vibrant, attractive and modern."
The organisers of the event said the flashmob will continue on Wednesday, 11 January at 15:00 at Terminal A of Kyiv's Zhulyany airport where the choir's artists together with their families and friends will sing Christmas carols for foreign visitors and Ukrainians returning home or heading abroad.
