EU pledges 18m euros in Donbas aid

The European Union will allocate an additional 18mn euros for the people affected by the fighting in Donbas, European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Christos Stylianidis announced during his visit to Ukraine on 20 February.

"The recent escalation of violence in the east of Ukraine and its impact on the civilian population is a serious concern. All civilians on both sides of the line of contact must be helped. Our new package will help partners in the humanitarian operations in eastern Ukraine to cover the immediate needs in housing, medicines and water," Stylianidis said.

"It is imperative that assistance was received by all conflict-affected people, quickly, safely and fairly," he added.

Earlier, MEP Rebecca Harms and the First Deputy Speaker Iryna Herashchenko and MP Mariya Ionova visited Avdiyivka.
