Ukrtelecom cables cut in Dnipro, Donetsk regions

Some districts were cut off landline long distance communication and internet access for hours.

On the night of Thursday, the trunk channels of Ukrtelecom, providing the landline phone communication and internet in the east of Ukraine, were subjected to a mass sabotage attack.

"The Novomoskovsk-Pavlograd link was cut in two places at 01:11 near Novomoskovsk, and at 04:04 in Dnipro, the cables of the Dnipro-Krynychka and Dnipro-Kamyanske sections were damaged," the company spokesman Mykhailo Shuranov said on Facebook on 11 May.

The act of sabotage led disconnection of subscribers in the city of Dnipro and the region from long-distance communication and the Internet on the government-controlled territory of Donetsk Region, in particular in Mariupol and Kramatorsk.

The connction was promptly restored, but at about 11:00 Kyiv time, Ukrtelecom trunks on the section of Volnovaha-Maryinka were damaged. The repair works took several hours.

Ukrtelecom stopped provision of services in the occupied part of Donbas in March after the loss of control over its telecommunications network.
