President Petro Poroshenko has said that Russia is preparing a military attack against Ukraine and further escalation up to the level of a full-fledged war is no longer unrealistic.
Speaking during the debates at the UN General Assembly, he said: “Military experts clearly state that an armed formation at the Russian border with Ukraine is an offensive assault group. It has nothing to do with defence. They are there for a military attack. The Kremlin is preparing for this. Therfore further escalation up to the level of a full-fledged war is no longer an unrealistic prospect.”
He said this is the reason to have comprehensive real-time monitoring of the situation along the Russian border with Ukraine.
According to him, illegal paramilitary groups in the area include around 35,000 militants in addition to 2,100 servicemen of Russian regular troops.
The total number of Russian troops along the border with Ukraine exceeds 87,000.
