The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry is aware of Denmark's decision to permit the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, however it expects the EU to take a firm stand in applying the updated Third Energy Package to this project in full.

"The ministry's position remains unchanged: the project poses real threats to security in the Baltic region and challenges the energy security of Ukraine and other Eastern European states," the spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, Kateryna Zelenko, has said, as quoted by Interfax-Ukraine.

She added that the fact that this issue was a matter of hot debates in Danish society confirms the potential risks.

According to Zelenko, the commissioning of the pipeline will further strengthen Gazprom's domination in the European energy market.

"In this context, the Ukrainian side expects the EU to take a firm stand in applying the updated Third Energy Package to the Nord Stream 2 project in full," she added.
