President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived at the Naval Operations Centre in Donbas "to thank [servicemen] for our lives, our peace, for protecting Ukraine, our independence, our sovereignty".

The commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Col-Gen Ruslan Khomchak, has told Ukrayina TV that all processes taking place in the Armed Forces should be brought in line with NATO principles.

"We are now at the implementation stage because the reform began in 2015, but practical measures began in 2019. We must bring our army and all the processes taking place in the Armed Forces to NATO principles because the principles are the framework which we have to accept and implement," Khomchak said.

Election day poll

President Zelenskyy has said that the first out of five questions to be asked during the poll on election day is "Should especially large-scale corruption be punishable with life-time sentences?"

According to the presidential office, the question was prompted by the political environment's reluctance to tighten anticorruption policy. "Even today, no longer having a direct influence on the government, powerful corrupt people still plan their return, negotiate with each other and concentrate the necessary resources - financial, media, party. What they care about in power is only what belongs to people, the budget, what they want to appropriate. Only the real will of the people can change this, "the presidential office said.

Parliament speaker Dmytro Razumkov has said that no additional money is planned to be allocated for the poll announced by President Zelenskyy. The poll is to be held on the local elections day on 25 October.
