Russian shells hit the radioactive waste storage of Kyiv brunch of "Obyednannia Radon", reported the press service of the State Inspectorate for Nuclear Regulation of Ukraine.

"As of the 27th of February, 2022, at 1.20 p.m. Kyiv time, as a result of the mass bombing of Kyiv by all the types of anti-aircraft and missile weapons available in the Russian Federation, the shells reached the radioactive waste storage of Kyiv brunch of "Obyednannia Radon". 

This information was received from the staff of the enterprise that stays in the shelter because of massive shelling through the phone call. It is not possible to obtain precise evaluation of the damage extent. The inspectorate also clarifies that the assessment of the radiation background will be performed by portable devices after the shelling is over.

According to preliminary data, there is no threat for the population.

UPDATE: The Russian shells hit the radioactive waste storage of Kyiv brunch of "Obyednannia Radon" did not lead to the depressurization of the storage facility. This was reported to Interfax-Ukraine by the press service of the SES of Ukraine. "The shell hit the fen. The building and the tanks are tintact", – the press service said.
