520,000 Ukrainians are seeking asylum in other countries already. This was reported by Voice of America with reference to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi. He says that currently more than 280,000 Ukrainians have left for Poland, 94,000 for Hungary, 40,000 for Moldova, 34,000 for Romania and 30,000 for Slovakia. The rest are in other countries.
“The numbers are increasing really fast, hour after hour beginning from Thursday. I have been working with refugees for almost 40 years, but I have seldom seen such a rapid outflow of people. The biggest in Europe since the Balkan Wars,” Grandi said.
The UN High Commissioner predicts that the number of Ukrainian refugees may reach four million in a few weeks.
He also notes that on 1 March the UN will launch a campaign to raise funds to overcome the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.
