The administration of US President Joseph Biden is preparing another package of sanctions against Russia's economy, as a means to increase pressure on Russian oligarchs to end thw war against Ukraine.
As reported by The New York Times:
On Wednesday, the US Department of Justice announced the creation of a task force to prosecute billionaires – oligarchs who helped Mr. Putin in his invasion of Ukraine. The task force is gathering resources from various federal agencies to ensure the implementation of radical economic measures introduced by the United States.
Plans for new sanctions against the oligarchs were also reported by Reuters and The Washington Post.
The White House indicated that these sanctions against Russian financial institutions and the Central Bank of Russia are the most significant since the Cold War. These measures have already segregated most of Russia's economy from the rest of the world.
US Republican Senators, Marco Rubio and Chas Grassley, have presented a bill to Congress to impose large-scale sanctions against all Russian state-owned enterprises called "HEROIAM SLAVA". This information was reported on Senator Rubio’s website. The bill is fully titled "Halting Enrichment of Russian Oligarchs and Industry Allies of Moscow’s Schemes to Leverage its Abject Villainy Abroad". The English abbreviation of the title is "HEROIAM SLAVA”.
These sanctions are designed to ban access to the US capital market for companies owned or controlled by Moscow, as well as diminishing their ability to finance Vladimir Putin's wars. These include companies such as; Rosneft, Gazprom, Rosatom, Aeroflot and RT.
