The attack of the Russian military on the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) is a war crime, stated the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv.

“Putin’s shelling of Europe’s largest nuclear power plant takes his reign of terror one step further,” the message says.

Yesterday, Russian forces shelled the city of Energodar and Zaporizhzhia NPP, located in the city. As a result, fire broke out at the nuclear power plant compound. Staff at the station were uninjured. Three Ukrainian defenders were killed and two were wounded.

Earlier, the mayor of Energodar, Dmytro Orlov, recorded an address to the city's residents, in which he stated that the Russian military “did not shoot civilians, and even if they did, they shot only blanks.” The mayor asked civilians not to resist and “not provocate” the occupier’s forces.
