Poroshenko called on Western countries to impose an embargo on Russian hydrocarbons on CNN.
"Every day, as long as Putin has the opportunity to attack, he must know that the pressure of sanctions will increase. For example, why finance Putin by buying, even at a discount, Russian Urals oil? This is at least immoral. It is necessary to impose an embargo on oil imports from Russia," Poroshenko said.
"And why do Europeans give Putin money buying natural gas? Every dollar for Putin will be used to kill Ukrainians. We must not allow this. We must be united. We appreciate the leadership of the United States, the leadership of President Biden, the Administration, the Congress. We must not stop. This is the defining moment," the fifth President of Ukraine said.
Poroshenko also called for providing Ukraine with as many weapons for protection as possible and closing the sky.
"When you help Ukraine, supply defense weapons, grenade launchers, it helps our army maintain its defense capabilities at the proper level. We need fighter aircraft. We ask to exchange planes - to give American planes to Poland, Germany, Slovakia, and to give us old Soviet planes. We need to shut the airspace over our heads, over nuclear power plants, over citizens, over Ukraine. About 70 percent of citizens in the United States support the idea. About 70 percent of citizens in Europe support it. Let's take this decisive step," Poroshenko urged.
"This is not just a war against Ukraine, and everyone should understand this. This is a war against the West, a war against the United States, a war against NATO, a war against Europe, a war against the whole world," Petro Poroshenko stressed.
