Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's office has said he plans to hold a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on 6 March, Radio Liberty has reported. Ankara is ready to do everything possible to end the war in Ukraine.
Erdogan's spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said in Istanbul on 5 March that Turkey "is ready to help resolve the crisis."
He reiterated Turkey's offer to hold negotiations between Russia and Ukraine and called for an immediate end to the violence. The spokesman also reiterated Erdogan's resolution to maintain ties with both Moscow and Kyiv.
Being a NATO member, Turkey has close relations with both Ukraine and Russia. It has immediately called for an end to hostilities since Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022.
On 4 March 2022, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
As of 1 March 2022, Turkey banned all foreign warships from passing through the Bosphorus and Dardanelles.
