The Russian occupiers in Melitopol appointed the deputy of "Opoblok" Halyna Danylchenko the new mayor. This was reported by the Center for Strategic Communications and Information Security.

Halyna Danylchenko has already recorded a video address to Melitopol residents, in which she called for "adapting to the new reality." She also noted that "there are people in the city who destabilize the situation and urge others to extremist activities." In addition, Danilchenko announced the creation of "committees of people's deputies."

Halyna Danylchenko is the head of the Opoblok faction in the Melitopol City Council. In 2019, the Chesno Movement (an organization that provides a public familiarization with political culture and every individual legislator as well as candidates to the People's Deputies of Ukraine in the country) reported that she was also the director of the Melitopol Sliding Bearing Plant LLC, owned by Vitaliy Balytskyi, a deputy of the Zaporizhia Regional Council from the Opoblok.

Yesterday it became known about the kidnapping of the mayor of Melitopol Ivan Fedorov.

On 4 March, in Melitopol, the invaders seized a TV tower and turned on Russian television. The townspeople took to the streets with national flags and marched for Ukraine. They shouted to the occupiers "Melitopol is Ukraine", "Shame", "Glory to Ukraine", "Glory to the heroes", "Death to the enemies" and so on.

Before in Melitopol, Russian channels staged a performance, showing how the invaders are allegedly welcomed in the city. In fact, people greeted the occupiers with Ukrainian flags and slogans "Go home!"
