Three journalists have been killed and 10 assassination attempts have been made since February 24, when Russia launched a full-scale war in Ukraine. 

Maria Ordzhonikdze, the head of the “Justice for Journalists (JFJ)” stated, "Radio Svoboda" reports.

According to her, all the physical attacks were committed by Russian troops, including the killing of three journalists: 

  • journalist Victor Dudar was killed during hostilities near Mykolaiv; 
  • Live cameraman Yevhen Sakun was killed in a rocket attack in Kyiv;
  • American Brent Reno, a video journalist and former author of The New York Times, was killed at a checkpoint in Irpin, Kyiv region.

In addition, 10 attempts to assassinate were committed:

  • Swiss journalist Guillaume Bricket was injured and robbed by Russian troops;
  • two journalists from the Czech edition of Voxpot, Maida Slamova, and Vojtech Bogach, came under fire from Russian troops; 
  • two Danish correspondents from Ekstra-Bladet, journalist Stefan Weichert, and photographer and reporter Emil Filtenborg Mikkelsen, were shot and wounded; 
  • Russian troops attack the British television group Sky News - chief correspondent Stuart Ramsey and his four colleagues were returning to Kyiv when they were ambushed. The bullet hit Ramsey in the back, cameraman Richie Mokler was rescued by a bulletproof vest, which was shot twice.

Earlier this week, Radio Liberty journalist Marian Kushnir was injured in Baryshivka, east of Kyiv. This happened during his editorial assignment. 

After the occupiers shelled American journalists, the mayor of Irpen banned journalists from entering the city where the hostilities continues.
