Borrel announces additional 500m euros from EU for Ukraine

The High Representative of the European Union, Josep Borrell, announced additional 500m euros to Ukraine.

He made this statement at a press conference on Monday, 21 March, following a meeting of the European Council of Foreign Ministers in Brussels.

"We will continue to support Ukraine economically, financially, humanitarianly, and support the Armed Forces of Ukraine. I am pleased to announce that we have reached a political agreement on additional 500m under the European Peace Facility," Borrell was quoted by Interfax-Ukraine.

According to the EU High Representative, all member states "remain extremely united in supporting Ukraine diplomatically in the international arena, will continue to isolate Russia, call for accountability for war crimes, violations of international and humanitarian law".

He also said that the EU considers what is happening in Ukraine as "large-scale war crimes committed by the Russian armed forces against the Ukrainian people".

"That is why we welcome the Commission set up by the UN Human Rights Council. We welcome the investigation by the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court," Borrel said.

In this regard, he stated that the ministers call on Russia to implement the decision of the UN International Court of Justice, which should stop the invasion of Ukraine.

Borrel also assured that the EU is ready for further restrictive measures to continue to put pressure on Russia.
