The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne has rejected an appeal by the Russian Football Union (RFU) against FIFA's decision to remove all Russian clubs and national teams from competition under its auspices - official CAS website reports.
"The chairman of the Court of Appeals of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has rejected a request from the Russian Football Union (RFU) to suspend the FIFA Council's decision to suspend all Russian teams and clubs in its competition.
Accordingly, the contested decision remains in force, and all Russian teams and clubs are excluded from participating in FIFA competitions. CAS arbitration is ongoing. A panel of arbitrators is currently being set up, and the parties are exchanging written submissions, "the court said.
CAS is expected to decide on a separate request from the RFU on the possibility of postponing the playoff matches of the qualifying round of the 2022 World Cup with the participation of the Russian national team to a later date.
