It is great honor to be president of such nation – Zelenskyy

Volodymyr Zelenskyy is proud of the citizens of Ukraine who courageously defend the country from the Russian aggressor. The head of state stressed that it was a great honor for him to be the president of such a nation.

Zelenskyy said this in an interview with the Italian newspaper La Repubblica.

"Once, after winning the presidential election, in my inaugural speech, I told the citizens of Ukraine, "Each of us is President," meaning that we are all equal and all of us are responsible for the future of our country. Today, each of us is a defender of our land, our state and our common future. I am proud of the citizens of Ukraine: military and civilians, volunteers, doctors, teachers, drivers, and our children who are forced to endure these sufferings… It is a great honor for me to be the President of such people, such a nation," the Ukrainian head of state said.

Zelensky is convinced that despite the terrible destruction that Ukraine is suffering, we will rebuild everything. But to do so we need peace. As soon as possible.

"Our biggest loss is people. Yes, the infrastructure, bridges and roads we have rebuilt in recent years, housing estates, new schools, and hospitals are being destroyed. Several cities have just been wiped out of existence – Gostomel, Volnovakha, Bucha… More than 550 educational institutions in Ukraine were damaged, 72 of them were completely destroyed. 246 hospitals were shelled, 13 of which were completely destroyed. The statistics are increasing every day," Ukrainian President told readers of the Italian newspaper.

He added that the psychological trauma that children and young people got during the war would be reflected in future generations of Ukrainians.

"And all civilized people in Europe and the world must understand this. And do everything to end this war," he said.
