The project “Ukrainian Witness” published an exclusive interview with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba on its YouTube channel. The Foreign Minister spoke about the war on the diplomatic front and explained that Ukraine's victory is inevitable.
The war did not paralyze or complicate the work of Ukrainian diplomats.
"I must pay tribute to COVID-19 that taught us how to work remotely without losing efficiency and be a one team," says Dmytro Kuleba.
Currently, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine works from three different regions and is in constant communication. Despite the war and the fact that the team of diplomats is located in different places, the ministry continues its work in a coordinated and efficient manner. According to the Foreign Minister, digital documentation and providing consulting services have already been implemented in safe regions.
"When I boarded a plane in New York on the evening of the 23rd, I already knew that the war would begin in a couple of hours," said Kuleba about how he was meeting the February 24th. “During this transatlantic flight I was connected to wi-fi, following the news and instructing my people because war doesn't stop diplomacy."
The Foreign Minister assures that the Ukrainian delegation in negotiations with the aggressor takes a clear and specific position which is preserving the territorial integrity of Ukraine and guarantees for the security of our state.
According to Dmytro Kuleba the full escalation has already taken place. While negotiations are underway with Russia our diplomats are working to ensure the supply of necessary weapons to Ukraine and to strengthen sanctions against the country-aggressor.
"The results of sanctions are the end of the war and Russia's withdrawal from Ukraine. Until that happens, no sanctions will be enough,” said the Foreign Minister.
The current sanctions are unprecedented, but as long as the war continues, they will continue to being imposed.
Kuleba says that the population of other countries can influence their government’s opinion by urging them to provide all necessary weapons and to close the sky over Ukraine. With diplomacy Ukraine has reached a consensus among its partners on sanctions and weaponry. However, the search for the best scenario for security guarantees is still ongoing.
"For Ukrainians by winning this war means preserving our identity and saving our country, so I have no doubts Ukraine will win," said the minister.
He assures that the government has an action plan for a week of war, as well as for 6 months or a year. Dmytro Kuleba does not make any prediction about the duration of the war, but affirms that as a diplomat, he is doing everything in his power to put an end to it as soon as possible. According to the minister, he will stay in Kyiv as long as it takes to defend the city on the diplomatic front.
