France deploys three nuclear subs at once first time in 30 years

France has deployed three nuclear submarines simultaneously for the first time in 30 years in response to the nuclear threat posed by Russia.

The Times reported this information with reference to the Telegramme, a newspaper of the Breton port.

Two of France's Triomphant-class ballistic missile submarines have left their base on the island of Ille-lounge, south of Brest. Another vessel is patrolling the Atlantic, as usual.

The last time three nuclear vessels were deployed at once was in the decade before the end of the Cold War during a US-Soviet standoff over medium-range missiles in Europe.

Yesterday France froze about 850m euros of Russian assets, including property and yachts.

Earlier, the Pentagon called Moscow's rhetoric on the likelihood of using nuclear weapons dangerous. That happened after a spokesman for Russian President Dmytro Pieskov said that Russia could use nuclear weapons if there is a threat to the country's existence in an interview with CNN.
