USA allocates $1bn to help victims of Russian aggression

The United States is allocating $1 bn in humanitarian aid to the victims of Russia's war against Ukraine. The funds will be spent on food, housing, clean water, medicine, and other assistance.

This was stated by US President Joe Biden, speaking to NATO leaders in Brussels.

The United States will also take in up to 100,000 refugees fleeing hostilities in Ukraine as the humanitarian crisis over Russia's attack escalates.

This was reported by The Wall Street Journal with reference to representatives of the White House.

The publication notes that the US government is working, among other things, to expand and develop new programs aimed at accepting Ukrainians who have family members in the United States.

The United Nations estimates that 10 mln people in Ukraine have fled their homes due to the war, of which more than 3.6 million have become refugees.

According to UNICEF, about 4.3 mln Ukrainian children out of a total of 7.5 mln were displaced due to the war. This includes 1.8 million children who have found refuge in neighboring countries and more than 2.5 million children who have become internally displaced persons and are temporarily in safe regions of Ukraine.

The United Nations estimates that 1.4 mln people in Ukraine do not have access to safe water, 4.6 mln Ukrainians have limited access to water or are at risk of losing it. More than 450,000 Ukrainian children aged 6 to 23 months need additional nutrition.
